Default Reel recommendation

Hi

I am looking for a cheap reel (50-100 quid) to pair with a greys streamflex 10' 3#. It is not going to have any line on it just a french leader connected straight to backing so it needs nothing fancy, just to look nice, be inexpensive and have enough weight to match the rod nicely and stop it from being to tip heavy when perched like a heron.

Cheers in advance
Dan

A few things to consider. 1. Large arbour reel to prevent tight curles on your nymph line.
2. Weight the lighter the better, as you'll be holding your rod arms length for most of the day
3. Try and keep the colour matt, preferably black
4. This is up to the individual but do you need a drag?

Have a look at the xact by loop, this retails around £59

There is a nice little Salter & Grandson in the classifieds with a Rio 3wt for small money. PJ

I tend to disagree with this, I found having a slightly heavier than normal reel on, has helped to counteract the rod tip, and put less strain on my arm, sounds daft I know, but it works for me.

a black Orvis BLA 1 or 11 , made in england type would look very nice with that rod.

I have noticed that to Steven and know exactly what you mean. A heavier reel, within reason, is often a good thing.

Grommit is selling a 900 Hardy Swift Mk2 for silly money, not much over £100.

Well you should always listen to older folk, and I agree I use a trion as its a fairly chunky reel....

Thats a point Coast, years ago thats all everyone went on about.
Balancing the set up, with the super light rods and reels on the market these days there is probably no balance to them anymore.
