Default Northumbrian Derwent?

All,

I fancy an afternoon on the Northumbrian Derwent harassing Brownies before the end of the season.

Can anyone recommend some places to fish, I haven't fished the water before but would like to give it a go with a mind to joining the local club next season.

All advice appreciated

Thanks

Cam

Stephen,

Thanks for the heads up I will have a look at the Rowlands Gill stretch. Where is the best place to park and get a day ticket?

Your blog looks interesting I will have a good browse later this evening

Cheers

Cam

Big car park near the petrol station at Winlaton Mill... I gave you some duff info , if you park at this Car Park at Winlaton Mill then walk upstream from there that is where I usually fish (sorry)

you can get day permit £8 I think from The Red Kite Store in Winlaton Mill,

Club Website is Axwell Park and Derwent Valley Angling Association

If wet fly fishing, I wouldn't go up there without agold head GRHE, the go down a treat up there

Thanks for the info I might try and get up one afternoon next week if I can get a half day. I am working up at Ryton one day so will be almost there !!

What is the best size of Rod. Looking at the pics I would guess my 8' 6" 4 weight may do but I have just bought a 6' 6" 3 weight that has yet to be baptised and may take that one along

Cheers

Hi Pedro long time no see. I fished Shincliffe at the beginning of the season but I have been really busy this year so haven't been out since then. I have stopped and looked over the bridge a couple of times but not had a chance to get in.

Might get out for a go at the Grayling if I am lucky.

How about you?

There is some cracking fish in there, I have had one just shy of 2lb and another coupl or three around the 1½lb mark, aparently there are some much bigger fish 3lb + in there, they certainly go well on light tackle lol
