Default Tapered leaders

I buy mine from Sportfish.

Where do you buy yours from and what brand do you buy...

Cortland Climax. I don't know what it is about both the leader and the tippets, but I like both the strength and feel of these leaders. Also, in cold weather, they seem to straighten out easier than other brands.

I'm also a big believer in making sure you get "fresh" leaders and mono. I don't trust any leaders or mono that is more than about 2 years old. With tippet, I date my spools. I buy all my leaders from one fly shop that I know has the stock turnover so I'm not getting leaders or tippet that has been hanging on the peg for 2 years. It's probably a confidence issue, but mono does degrade so I don't take any chances.

Shakespeare Worcestershire Fly Tapered Leaders are all I've used for trout and grayling.

I got them first in O'Reilly's and now buy them almost compulsively whenever I see them.

I have to admit being pretty wastefull with my tapered leaders. If it's crinked or knotted after a bad cast then I just replace it. After I add tippet a few times and the line starts to shorten then I replace it. I also replace it if I'm moving from using droppers to straight though as I don't want knots on my line for no reason.

I've met guys who use the same leader + tippet for a season, I use at least one every trip.

I use polyleaders. they are thicker at the butt and give a better turnover.

Hi Wigger,

When i have used them i have used the nail knot to attach them to my flyline.

Also the Airflop poly leaders have loops at either end i believe.

Do you use them on rivers or stillwaters?

As im not sure what is the best length for rivers which i have just started to fish.

Cheers Mark

Orvis Co-polymer ones. Cause you get two in each packet. And they are reliable and straight. I also use Orvis co-polymer as tippet as well. I use a tippet ring at the end of each tapered leader - but still seem to use a new leader each time I go fishing :-)
