Default Bungs

Hi everyone, yet another post about me bein stingy. Is there any way i could manufacture bungs for a cheap price because of the high price of indicators. I know that i can use yarn but i much prefer solid bungs i think there more reliable. Thanks

I find using the solid bungs as in TFF this month are ideal if u are fishing lures under them, especially in a big wind/wave

However,

i use the yarn ones, (Strike Out Yarn whipped to a cotton bud) are perfect for fishing buzzers under, i find using the yarn ones better because they are more sensitive so to spk as the fish seem to feel more resistance with the solid bungs an leave go b4 I have a chance to strike.

May just be me but mt 2 penneth worth.

I use the pre-cut booby eye pieces of foam. I just push a needle through the bottom of the "cylinder" and tie in a loob of nylon. Then i just attach it by looping it though itself on to the loops i have made on my singapore leader. It might sound like its going to tangle but it doesnt and works really well

Also if i have three "sections" in the singapore leader, instead of snipping the loop off (the ones that are naturally formed when you tie it) i leave them and therefore have three loops where i can attach the bung to fish different depths.

Default bungs

A CDC sedge works for me - floats much better than a booby. Although can be slower to find after glancing away (than a bright fluo booby / indicator).
Just put as much natural CDC as you can on a hook... I have found dyed CDC a waste of time.
Neil.

I would urge you to consider a proper yarn bob tied on a hook, rather than a mere bung, as they do catch fish! You tie it almost like those French "cone" flies. Whip four to six short lengths of artificial wool, about one inch long,to the hook, just above the bend and take the thread back up, whipping in the wool to just below the eye. Put in either a number of half-hitches or a four or five turn whip finish.

Some use a hackle, wound once, at this point. Perhaps to give the idea of some sort of emerger on steroids! Tease out the strands of wool to form a "shuttlecock" effect. Then just rub "Gink" or vaseline or any other "floatant" well into the strands of you bung before you cast out.

Floats very well, can be tied in a variety of colours of wool. You can make a number of these white, black, orange, light green, yellow, etc., etc. to suit prevailing conditions when fishing. Or even half and half with three strands white and three strands black, or three red and three yellow, etc., etc.

And as it has a hook is technically a "fly" rather than a bung so will perhaps not offend those who would condemn you as a "float fisherman" so much! Plus you might be surprised at the number of fish it will raise.

It is also cheap, as you requested!

Ah! I have found one of my wool bob flies. They are not tied as I quoted! The hook is bare, the wool, and a hackle being whipped on behind the eye to pint backwards as on a conventional winged wet fly. Except that the hook shank is not dressed.

Once all is finished and the head varnished then the wool is teased out with a stilleto or dubbing needle. It looks then like Leo Sayer on a bad hair day!

So, in appearance, the fly looks like a conventional "marabou" or hair winged fly, except the wing in this case is the wool and the hook bare. If you send me, or put here, your address I'll tie a fresh one and send it to you, FOC.
