Bruce, I agree 100% .....a 4wt line is ok but a 5wt is definitely nearer the mark. Presently making up shooting heads - floating / intermediate & sinker (mill ends) for this rod, found that 30 feet of 8wt DT line (13 grams) seems about right.

Can't help with the Snowbee, but for what it's worth I am using a Vision Cult 9'6" #4 for exactly the purpose you describe and it's quite superb, albeit at twice the price of the Diamond.

123j - forget small brownies (at least whilst they are out of season !)....today I caught 3 Rainbows for 8lb - all fought well but no problem for this rod.

p.s. Junior cast the 8wt 30 ft, 13gram floating shooting head.....head & running line out to the backing !!!!!!! (he agrees with me, the rod is not overlined.)

My old Dad just bought a Snowbee Diamond 4 piece 9'6" 4# and got it sent to me idea being for me to try it on my local small river for him.

Whilst i "Dont like" rods over 9' myself i have to say i really like this rod ! It comes in a very robust green tube which contains a green bag with four pockets holding four Olive rod pieces.

The blank is a lovely olive colour i really love the burr wood of the reel seat which has skeleton alloy frame over it a the two locking rings for the reel are extremely light and all the metal work has a nice matt finish.

It felt alot lighter in the hand than i expected even after adding my Snowbee Geo 3/4# reel loaded with Airflo sixth sense WF3/4# line. Holding the rod out it drooped slighlty but only at the last section, however when "wiggled" it flexed much further back ......think im going to like it.

Took it out friday everning on the river, even though i dislike over 9' rods i could certinally live with this rod It cast the 3/4# line very well and roll cast very well indeed. I have to admit the extra length did aid mending line etc.

It felt alot more "powerful" and stiffer than my 9' 3# Vision Cult that ive been using on the same stretch of river of late. Missed a few bite early on , but then on a lovely fishy looking run with bubble trail (ive never caught on) my line twitched, i struck, and all hell broke loose not a monster but a nice wild fish of 11"-12" which put up a great scrap using the fast current fully to its advantage, the rod flex well back very much "middle-tip" it absorbed the jolts and runs of the fish very well with plenty of "feel" However i felt the rod had lot of under lying power i.e slightly too powerful it would handle a 3lb stockie no problem. Missed a few more bites before nailing a wee 4"-5" brownie in fast water the rod was rod and gave good "feel" i had expected it to dampen the sport on small stuff but i was wrong..........

The old fella bought this rod for Float tubing/river and i must admit it will be ideal for tubing and good enough for the river. I like to have used the 9'6" 3# but than ive been using a 3# and one with a much softer action so every thing seems heavy and powful Infact considering adding a Cult in 2# either 8'6" or 8' to my collection as i love my 9' 3# Cult so much

However i liked the Snowbee Diamond lovely looking rod, nice action, and cast/roll cast well.................
