Default Hardy Glass Rods

Anyone got or tried one of these?

Had a waggle of a 5ft 2wt a while ago and thought it was a noodle but wondering what the slightly longer/higher AFTM models might be like.

Jeez the whole 'anti-fast action' thing I'm in is getting out of control!!!!

I've tried the 6' #3 back to back against a classic lightweight 6' #2. The glass rod is very old school could be described as charming i suppose but I would'nt trust it to be quick enough to set a hook on a quick wee brownie so I opted for the lightweight. Still has a nice through action but a little quicker.JB

I bought the 5' #2 and I am going to persevere with it. The rod is very slow in recovery and very noodley.

If you like the TXL I think the LW range is a better bet.

I got the '5 for the awkward corners on my river.

Thanks fellas - interesting point about setting hooks ticklemetackle.

Is the Lightweight definitely a more through action than med-fast/mid-tip?

Definitely through action from my cast trials. But smooth and reasonably quick recovery.

Sorry I don't buy the 'hooking' issue. I fish the glass and an original Orvis superfine and it isn't an issue. Strike and the rod will set the hook.

My view is Hardy has come up with a couple of lovely rods with great retro design which suits my tastes. These are not the super rip off prices of the boom years .... I think I bought my Glass Aln for £140 from Grommit .... I think the LW is another £40 or so.

I was lucky I haggled hard for my TXL and it was still a lot of money.

Thanks Carlos, will have a go of the Lightwieght too - like the sound of that action

I love the look too, just find my TXL a bit fast for some scenarios. Have overlined it by 1 AFTM already and would welcome something with a more relaxed vibe too for calmer days. Agree that they are famous value (for a Hardy)

Thanks again.

Ben

Coasty,

How would you describe the action and what line do you use?

Many thanks,

Ben

Its more middle than middle to tip, it loads easily and works with very little line outside the rod tip. I use it on a small stream thats heavily tree covered and for that its great, it roll casts very well. But It will put out a decent line if you need it to. It is not a noodle and is a very nice fishing rod. I use a DT3 from the pirate on it with an Orvis mid arbour reel.
