Following on from quite a long thread about balance and the weight of reels I thought it would be interesting to compile the weight of reels across the brands.

Rather than rely on manufacturers or retailers stated weights, weigh our own and I'll drop them into a format so we can compare them...

If we weigh in grammes, and don't worry if the same reels keep cropping up as it will mean we can take an average weight...Oh, and no line or backing.

To start the ball rolling my old Daiwa Lochmor 8/9 is showing as 252g on my kitchen scales.

Good idea Matt, but I can't be arsed taking all my lines and backing off!

When I change things over on my reels I'm quite happy to contribute though.

Will be easier for those that have cassette reels with a spare empty spool. But I would have thought that many of us will do some sort of maintenance over the close season (even me, and I'm notoriously slutty with my kit) that will mean stripping the line off our reels.

I'm going to make a start using the fishtec catalogue and the stated weights in oz. I'll convert into grammes and and post it, at least we'll have somewhere to go from and I only have to type all the reel names once!

First thoughts are that the stated weight for the Vision Koma must be wrong: 109g for the #7-8. Makes it by far the lightest in the table for the line size...

It's listed at 188g. The 5/6 is 177g. Are you sure your table doesn't list the weight of the spools?

Fishtec have the Koma #7-8 listed at 3.85oz, or 109g. Thought it must be wrong! I think you're probably right and they have listed the spool weight, not the reel+spool weight...
I'll update the table every few entries or so, otherwise I'll get confused (not difficult) as to what I've updated and what I haven't.
