Default Partridge Shooting Distance and Reservoir line

Had a look at the shooting distance and Reservoir lines today. Come in a trendy tin, handy for the worms.

Anybody tried the lines?

Berlin folded his XP with one. Seems he got a bit carried and tried to aerialise the entire line.

That would explain the folding XP.

So am I right in thinking that you don't use backing with this stuff?

Well, yes and no! The flaw with it is, I think, that the length on the series of lines is the same. Whereas it would have been better if the "volume" of the lines, the space that they occupy on a reel, was in fact equal.

So on a large arbor whilst the bulkier floater may fill the spool to the lip on the thinner sinking lines you will, if you want to "fill out" the reel still need backing.

The two "medium" sinkers are also neraly identical shades of blue, so could be a little confusing when remembering which is which...you'll need to label the spools.

Having said that the concept does look interesting if all you want is to load a small diameter spool and know that when loaded there won't be room for backing anyway.

Otherwise I think that it is a solution looking for a problem that doesn't exist...and at a price! I just use hollow braided backing and appropriate "tube" collar to get a seamless join from fly line to backing.

I think that Norris and Stapeley Water Gardens all have them on offer price...
