Default Greys grxi rods

Hi to all grxi rod owners i have recently bought one of these rods a 10ft 6/7#
what i want is to pick your brains to see what is the best floating line for this rod as i bought the greys herom grey line for it but it seems to light for the rod to load properly. they guy at the glasgow angling centre told me 6/7 # was the right one. i have 3 other lines 2 of which are from pitsford pirate and my sixth sence di7 which cast no problem whatsoever so should i up the wieght on the floating line or what any help here would be most appreciated thank you.

Tigger,

Just my personal opinion here , , , , ,
I reckon that my GRXi 9'6" #6/7 is the most versatile rod I ever used.
Mostly I use a Cortland (floater) WF7 or DT7 Intermediate. That said, it happily copes with a WF8 on those windy days and loads up really well for distance casting, and I have been known to use a floating DT5 with a light leader and tippet for those "delicate" days on tight streams. With that rod, I just feel like I can put the fly pretty much where I want it to be in most conditions.

I guess that much of this is down to personal preferences and comfort - it simply just suits me and the way I like to cast and fish, and doesn't work me hard, and it all makes for a more pleasurable experience for me, which, at the end of the day, is what it is all about for me.

thankyou for the quick replys my dilema is i was used to the greyflex mk2 which was mid to tip action and it got nicked from my car with all my fly gear so starting again from scratch the grxi is a tip action rod and im having problems casting a greys 6/7# line from it,
so what i realy want to know is should i go up a line size to maybe an 8# or is that just a bit to much ?

Which line have you got Tigger?

I wasn't aware that Greys lines were dual rated??

If it's a heron grey "Platinum" line I think it will be either a #6 or a #7, not both.

Having said that, I have a #6 Platinum and I feel that it is more like a #5 in terms of how it casts....it does seem to be a light line but that might just be me. Certainly it won't load either of my #6 rods.

cheers

W

I use one of the Pirates 7w floating lines with my GRXi 9'6" (6/7w) and it casts excellently. Well, as excellently as I'm capable of.

i,ve got a 7/8 grxi and use a 7wt airflo polfuse xt and it feels fine to me ? when i was trying to find a line i liked, i tried the snowbee xs 7wt and the courtland ? 7wt 2 well rated lines. I did not like any of these but my airflo di 7 casted great. so good i advise anyone that,s learning the double hual to start with a sink line. but to answer your question yes if it feels like your casting a piece of string. was the heron grey a 6/7 or a 7wt
in theory 2 lines the same can feel totaly diferent to each other due to 15 grain alowance - + , meaning 1 line could be 55 grains at the head the other be 85grains at the head or the first 30 feet. hope this is of some help
