Default Greys X Flite v Greys Greyflex II

Just wondering if anyone had used the river rods of these two models , specifically the 8.5ft 5 wts.

Any opinions ? Thanks

I've only used the 9ft #5, it's a very good rod for its £160 price tag. This rod has a mid-tip action which I seem to get along with more yet it still has the power to cast a fair distance with good casting abilities.

I think Fossil fish has the 9ft 6" #7.

I have the 7'6" 3/4# and it is great you can cast long or sort you just need to change your casting stroke a little.

I tried an orvis clearwater 8' 4# a scierra matuka 9' 4# and a sharpes 8' 4# and the greys was the clear winner it would cast further than the rest and also loaded faster with a little more feel my other choice would have been the orvis might try one for my next rod.

Hi Spider,

Have a chat with Grommit on this forum and see if he can do you a deal for similar money on a St Croix rod. He sold me an 8'6" #4 Legend Elite for a great price recently and it is an absolute dream to fish with on the rivers!

You could also consider a Scott A2 which in shorter lengths is a lovely river rod. They've discontinued them recently and they're available on the web for Greys money

Sorry to give you something else to think about, but I promise that you won't be disappointed with either

Cheers, John
