Default Weigh net?

Can anyone recommend a decent sized river trout weigh net?
I am simply rubbish at estimating weights and am no longer that comfortable taking fish out the water for the period it takes to measure them.
All i can seem to find is the McLean job and while they are held in high regard i dont need anything as industrial or that goes up to the heady 10lbs+ level.
Any ideas or links would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

Actually, Mark, the McLean net I had on the Nith is ideal for the river. The net itself is, perhaps a bit large but tying a knot in it reduces the size.

It's the same net they use in NZ Trophy Waters.

Default weigh net

Hi Mark

I have had the Mclean weigh net for 5 months and its fine and reliable even for small fish even though its the 14lb version,Mclean do a smaller version but its not available in the UK yet, GAC has some cheaper stillwater versions around £20

Hope this helps

Hugh

Thanks Hugh, i had a look at the Stillwater one today.
I dont think its net, looks more like barbed wire. I was toying with the idea of buying one and replacing the net.

Thanks folks, any other ideas ?

hows about a normal net, and just weigh the net and the fish together? works for me. if not, try weighing the fish in a heavy duty carrier bag. ridiculously cheap, but they dont take any slime off the fish when there wet, there great for fish up to about 5lb with a good bag. just make sure the sharp seam is on the outside.

Hi Mark

The larger Snowbee scoop net is a cracker, the lightweight metal one with the black foam handle and very fine soft mesh, it also has an elastic bungee in the handle and is very popular with float tubers.

I know it is not a weighing net but this could easy be sorted by simply fixing a set of scales to the frame? Retail is about £19 for the net?

Best wishes
Mike

Default McCleans

Another vote for the McCleans weigh-net.
Excellent bit of kit IMO.

My mate bought one of those weigh nets for his float tube. Let's just say they don't float well.

Have you though of buying a net with fish friendly deep mesh and hooking it onto some pocket scales. You just need to know the wet weight of the net.

Not the solution you were hoping for, but perhaps worth a try.
