Default Greys Greyflex M2 10’ #7 or Greys X-Flite 10’ #7

Oh god , not another “which rod” question you will be thinking, but this should be easy (I hope)

I have a bit of a dilemma, I really fancy the new Grays X-Flite; it looks a great rod and I have read the positive reviews in this months TF and here on the forum, with both fossil-fish’s and flygirl’s personal review of the rod.

And here is the dilemma , the Greyflex M2 is half the price of its X-Flite cousin, is the X-Flite really worth double the money??

I know the M2 is being phased out and replaced by the X-Flite, but a lot of members on here seem to like this rod, and I have read loads of good reviews on the M2 rod and it seem to be a great bargain at ½ the price. With Christmas & birthday money safely stashed away, I can afford either one, just looking for a bit of help and advice or a nudge in the right direction.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards

Would say that it comes down to stiffness.

If you prefer a stiffer, slightly faster actioned rod, the X flite might be one to go for - thats the vibe i get anyway.

I didnt get on with my 9.5ft M2 as it made a very annoying swoosh sound when casting with all lines, and wasnt as sensitive as the Greyflex Mk 1, which to my mind was a super rod.

Go to a shop an try them both if you can. The X-flite is the better , lighter rod IMHO is it worth double the price? Probably not.

Mind you the same goes for some of the £500 rods - they are not that much better than £200 rods these days....the gap has narrowed significanlty.

I had an M1 a while back but now use Bloke rods which are much faster and stiffer (but still quite forgiving). Keep in mind if your budget stetches to £200 you can get a G-tec for £205.

Default Thanks for the advice

Thanks for the advice guys, appreciate you comments.

WelshNomad, might take up your suggestion of trying both rods against each other, Glasgow Angling Centre have an open day coming up soon so could try both rods out if they have any M2’s left.

Thanks again

Recently purchased x-flite 10 #7 and had my first throw this week.
Having used the mk11 in the past I am of the opinion that the x-flite is a better rod.
I was really surprised at how light and yet powerful this rod is,as someone who struggles with distance casting I can say in all honesty after one days practice I have added 4 yards and believe there is more to come.

Try the x-flite if you don't think the difference is significant opt for the mk11.
