Default The future is Bioline?

This seems like a potentially wonderfull product, mono that degrades in just 5 years. No more yards of mono lasting 600? years. Anyone used it?

Thumbs up

$13.87 or just under £10 sterling for 210 yards, if it lessens the impact on the envoronment and sets an example i will be using it.

the spool is biodegradable, not that you should be throwing it away, the bag is not biodegradable to protect the 5 year lifespan of the contents(exposure will degrade the line) contradiction? the packet goes in the bin same as every other packet. and testing? you need someone to try leader material for you?

It IS a good idea but in reality the folk who it will appeal to are not the one's that leave yards and yards of line on the bank anyway. I can't see the "buckie boys" as we call them going into a tackle shop and saying "look tam, this line will brek doon efter 5 years, quality! pit doon that powerbait and get yersel some eh this."

I agree, the product appeal will be a case of preaching to the converted, while we will all continue to tut as we dispose of 100s of yards of 20lb mono from venues stocked with carp etc left by those who should have disposed of it themselves.

I tend to only change my coarse reel lines once a year, which begs the question, if it degrades fully after only 5 years, what is the degradation to strength after 10 months? I would hate to hook the barbel of a lifetime and have it break under pressure due to this...

Let he who has not left a few feet hanging in a tree, or snapped off on an underwater obstacle (fish included) cast the first stone!

It helps me 'balance my karma' picking up other peoples discards. It doesn't take long to find yards of mono around popular fishing spots and either taking it home or placing in the bin provided. Often there's a fly or an indicator you can 'recycle' as an added reward.

Once I dropped a whole spool of fluorocarbon into the water when returning a fish, heard the splash but couldn't see where it went. I found it two weeks later on my next trip when the weeds had died back a bit. I'm not sure if it was the expense or the environmental damage but I was very happy to be reunited. I always trim off my tag ends over an open pocket of my vest, every little bit helps!

I think the make or break fact for this product is 'will it fish as well as existing products?'. If visibility, knot strength and feel are as good (the reviewer didn't seem to have any problems other than kinking) as Fluoro and Copoly then I'd happily shell out a premium for the peace of mind.

Mind you, it can still kill a lot of wildlife in the five years before it becomes mush.
