Question Greys Greyflex

I have noticed that the mark 2 Greyflex is either being vastly discounted by some retailers, or is missing from other retailers product list. I assume, perhaps wrongly, that it is being discontinued. There is nothing new on the Greys website.

Is there likely to be a mark 3 on the way, or do Greys hope that the G-Tec will corner this segment of the market.

Anyone better informed?

I am bit of a Grey's fan so would be interested to know what the replacements are. Is one the Accuflex ? I don't think the Greyflex M2 was, for me, a replacement for the original for which I still have a great attachment as it was my first fly rod for 35 years. I thought I had lost it (along with a G-Tec) and found that the M2 was markedly different - much stiffer. However fortunately I did get it back.

I've forgotten what the new range will be called ,but the rods i have used are very well finished and the blanks were black and olive green .The M2 replacement feels like a middle to tip and the XD replacement i used was more of a tip action action.

Default greyflex m2

confirmed via an email from graham pirrie from hardy/greys managment team, the greyflex is being discontinued. but they will be holding replacement sections for a couple of years, after that if you break your rod you will be offered another rod at a good price. bang goes the ULG then. i think it is about time greys and others forgot about this so called ULG. speaking to some dealers this ULG gives them nothing but heartache. whats to stop people breaking the rod just to get a new one

cheers

Grey Duster, I agree completely. I got the Mk 2 version of the 9.5ft 7 wt because it was in 3 sections and the original was excellent . The mk 2 is stiff, but also mt greys line is noisy going through the rings - it doesnt happen on the orininal and is actually a bit annoying !

I would think the Accuflex is only a cheaper model.

If you get the new one let me know - I'm sort of in the market for a 5 wt river rod !

Hi Guys
Please can I tag a question onto this thread? I have just had a beginners day at Rutland and am a bit of a convert. I had thought about a 7/8 weight Greys GRXi (I have a greys quiver rod and love it) as a first rod but now I see the greyflex on offer would it be a better buy???

the replacement for the greyflex is called the X-Flite not sure on prices yet but i would imagine it to be similar, the replacement for the xd is a very nice rod indeed but i suppose it needed to be - it has a tough job to fill replacing the xd - it will be interesting to see how many people upgrade from one to the other

tight lines
