Default Hardy Palakona query

Just purchased a Hardy Palakona 8'6" #6 (bit of self indulgence!). Is it neccessary to moisten the ferrules before joining. What is generally considered the best method?
Vaguely remember someone telling me to simply give the male ferrule a good lick! No jokes please.
Cheers

No need ,the Hardy ferrules will be spot on they should slide in with a firm push and "pop" when you pull it apart ,if it needs any lubrication to insert it you have got a duff one !
Sorry if this all sounds frighfully sexual.its the male and female ferrule thing

Andy is correct. I have two Palakonas and they fit snugly but smoothly. If you need to do anything at all then just wipe your fingers on the bridge of your nose and then rub the male ferrule.

Thanks for the tip Cothi. I'd like to know you're impression of the two rods. The one I bought is 8'6" #6.

Well they are a delight to look at and own - yellow cane, distinct colour bindings. Fishing with them is an acquired pleasure as they are quite soft and you have to wait during the cast. This will also be affected by the state of your rod i.e. if it has a "set" or been cut down at any stage.

The specs of yours is classic although 8ft is the par. If you want to know when it was built then use the number and refer to the Hardy website - probably sometime in the 1970s.

Hi Cothi
the rod number is I10, built in 1986. Does this make any sense? I should mention I'm awaiting delivery of the rod and I'm quoting seller's description.
Checked Hardy's website but no joy I'm afraid. Opinion?

I'm struggling with the "I". I think it could be August. 1986 should have an "A". Perhaps someone else will know.

Thanks for your efforts Cothi. The sellers description is probably a little "garbled". I'll obviously know more when I receive the rod. Hope I'm not being "sold a pup" as they say in this neck of the woods! I'll get back to you when I have more info.
Cheers

The code I10 doesn't match any Hardy's data? Maybe when you get the rod you can check the actual marking and use this site as a reference to find out the exact date.

Enjoy the rod, I have a 9' Palakona # 6 which I like very much, although I tend not to use it so much these days since acquiring my Tom Moran
