I have an old Patagonia vest (the one with two pockets at the back) and it's been superb. They don't make them any more, but they sometimes come up on ebay. No reason it wouldn't fit a female form either - it's loose-fit mesh.

I don't use vests much now and prefer to use a sling pack. I use the smaller 2011 version of this but I might get a magnum pack this year.

Polly if longevity and plenty of pockets is the way to go follow Christys advice and mine the Tacklepack from Orvis takes some beating .
If you organise it properly and have a place for everything and return it to that pocket not too confusing .
BTW re longevity mine is now heading for 25 + years old
However new items can confuse ,december i bought two pairs of polaroid over glasses ,the sunny day ones went missing ,that is until last week when I found them in a not usually used inside pocket ,my excuse last time worn was exceeding cold of the bank at Grafham and it started raining so swapped to the low lite ones and in my rush to get warm in the Wheatsheaf forgot where I put them .
