Default Expert Advice Needed

A salmon trip is a possibility this year to the Aberdeenshire Dee. I need a suitable rod. What should I be looking at?

All suggestions gratefully received, thank you.

Over 50 views and no advice.

A 14' with a multi tip line should do you fine.

You could get more specific advice if you said which beats and month you were likely to be there?

stick a post on the salmon forum, someone will know how wide the river is on the beat and size of fish you need to consider,

anything over 14' is just showing off

Richard,

Are you going to fish "single hand" or do you intend to fish "double Handed" fly rod? Single handed up to 11ft.6in, #10/11/12 I'd go for an 11ft, #9/10/11 especially if it's a one-off trip! And you wouldn't want to make a fool of yourself with a double hander (if you've not used one) would you.

The Salmon Forum is your best place to ask these questions.

Hello Richard

Would have a chat with Mick Bell (Bloke Fly Rods).Man on the spot so to speak given he has moved to Scotland and hosts quality fishing trips there.

Middle dee in summer would happilly fish a 13 footer 7/8 weight with a full floater and some poly tips .would also think single hander in the 10-11 foot range 6/7 line rating .

If this is a one off trip a loan oufit is a possible.Seem to regularly loan kit to sons school masters and always get it back in fine condition .
