Just had a look at the pic on John's website, looks like a lovely rod. How does it compare to the Hanak 4 in 1? It's interesting that the rod is only 9ft9 and marketed specifically for use with a french leader. I find the extra length of the 4 in 1 quite handy.

Craigie, I have the Hends one, with the insert, bringing it from 9ft to 10ft 3 inches i think. Havent used it since end of season but i was impressed with it, apart from the fact that the fly line is noisy going through the rings . Not sure what causes this - either the way the blank is finished ( it has that bumpy unsanded feel?) or maybe the rings are a bit cheap? Nice kit though, although it will take me a while to get used to casting dries on a 9ft 3 wt as i am more used to a shorter rod in 4/5 weight. Overall v impressed though.

I have the Hanak 4 in 1 in a 3# and love it - lost a lot less fish since I swapped to this from using my XF2 + in 4#. Only minor quibble is I preferred it in the matt finish but Hanak have stopped doing them as apparently they had trouble selling them amongst glossy rods in shop settings. I reckon matt is better but they say it does not affect the performance and personally my catch rate has gone up since I started using it so maybe its all in the mind- I dunno!

Has anyone tried the the Siman 10" nymph rod and is do how does it compare to the Hends range or the greys XF2/XF2+ or the guideline Fario?

I ask as I want to buy a 10"+ nymphing rod but i cant try before i buy as I travel a lot.

Any comments will be very helpful

Many thanks

Hi,

Another one to throw into the mix might be the new St Croix High Stick Drifter, probably comes in at a similar price to the Fario. 10 foot 4 and 5 weights, powerful rods with very delicate tips, designed for all kinds of nymphing. One of the American mags gave them a good review and had also used the 4 weight for French nymphing. In general St Croix rods are usually excellent value for money.

In adverts the label and finish looks a bit gaudy but in the video above it looks rather smart.

Not tried one , though, as they only seem to be available in the States at the moment.

Cheers,

I have two of the HANAK 4 in 1's, the #3 and the #4/5.
These enabled me to cover all required lengths from 9' upwards, enabling me to reduce the number of rods I take with me / need.
