Tempted Craigie, I must admit! Only thing is the length, I would have preferred the rod to be closer to 11' than 10'. It seems like the Czechs prefer slightly shorter rods for French nymphing.

I'm becoming more and more tempted by these hanak rods. Got my eye on the 4 in 1 best rack up the brownie points now.

The Hends XP9003 is the 10ft 2inch 2/3 weight, not a XP9005 - so be careful your buying what you want

I tried Jans prototype in september on the Otava - it was a sweet rod and he told me that this was going to be the one he was bringing to market.

I think these 9'9 2wt's are designed by the Italian comp angler
sandro soldarini, the Czechs, poles,French & Italians are the best in the world at French nymphing & I'm led to believe that the hanak rods are used as part of their armoury for this disipline of fishing.

Thanks Graeme; Is that The Simans line you are referring to?
Can you tell me how much each rod weighs, more or less...?

Regards

Dan

I have Jan Simans 10ft 2-3 weight rod on my website :Tungsten Beads Plus — Jan Siman Light Nymphing Rod 10ft 2/3#

I have found it very nice for light nymphs for French nymph fishing and it plays fish beautifully on light tippet.

He also makes a 3-4 weight which I plan to stock, I think the 3-4 should be a good winter rod for lobbing heavier nymphs on heavier tippet with the 2-3 being better suited to summer light nymph tactics.

I have been fortunate enough to be able to test out the Jan Siman 2/3 10ft rod by Joel at www.tungsten-beads-plus.com and be able to compare it to the mk1 10ft 3 streamflex and the mk2 xf2 same size.

Firstly the xf2 is no where near as good as the mk1 streamflex in my opinion. I have had the mk1 since the 3 weight became available and it transformed my fishing with the ease it allows you to fish french nymph technique. I use a hends camou 9m leader and gave been able to fish the whole lot out with this rod wet and dry! I tried the xf2 and after only 30 mins of fishing didnt like it the tip seemed too soft and just didnt have any control casting the camou leader. The rod dynamics seem to have changed greatly the mk1 seems very through action and the xf2 is all tip.

I then got chance to try the Siman 2/3 on a trip out with Joel recently. I used the same 9m camou leader and 2 2.5mm tungsten bead flies that I had done in the morning on my streamflex. The rod cast the setup excellently it seemed to give a very natural fluid motion feel like the streamflex has come to give me. The rod is very light in the hand lighter than the streamflex and a thicker handle which I liked as I struggled in the past with the streamflex grip and made a post about it. When playing a fish the rod was great the tip subdues all the bouncing and shaking of the fight whilst the butt allows you to lean into the fish and get them in suprising for a 2/3. The rod is so good at subduing the fish I had the drag set so you could pull line off easily with finger and thumb no effort yet the fish (11-14 inch) took no line from the reel the rod did all the work!

I am very tempted to upgrade my streamflex as this rod seemed to excell playing the fish I have lost fish before on the streamflex due to the through bend action not cushioning the thrashing but the Siman was very confidence inspiring especially with the drag set so low and none being taken showed no harsh pressure was on the line.

I recommend you have a word with Joel

Jonathan
