Default Taking apart old brass/ebonite reel

I recently got this reel:

Click the image to open in full size.

The only screws are those for reel foot. Everything else are pins which are holding two plates together. Reels of similar construction i have all have combination of tubes with inner screws and are easy to take apart.

Should this reel be simpy forced apart (which i was not able to do), or am i missing something. Yes i have removed all screws and front plate/screw before trying

Itlooks like the pins have been peaned,(head enlarged.)unless you have facilities to replace the rods.do not do it.I have 2 reels like this.Easier and cheaper to make than a screw fitting.

I understand that, but it seemed strange that they would make a reel that is impossible to maintaine/lubricate etc.

Thank you for your reply.

You may find that the pins are threaded opposite hand at each end.

Try looking closely at one end of the pin to see which thread is which.

You then have to turn them, a little bit, one at a time to get it apart. Easy once you get them moving (remove foot first)

And getting it together again..............well.......

Let us know how you get on
