Default Mutli-tip fly line?

I'm trying to find a multi-tip fly line not shooting head with interchangeable heads for a #7 single handed rod.

What are the alternatives?

The only one I've found so far is an Airflo.

I had a SA Mastery tri-tip a few years back. I don't know if they still do them, you can only have a look.

I used mine for single handed salmon fishing and loved it.

Mastery or Rio would be the one I would go for Wiggy.

Airflo one is quite good too.

If you try tackle bargains, you can pick up one relatively cheaply.

What's it for?

I've seen the Rio Versitip, but have no experience with these lines.

The line will be used for Nordic SWFF. I want just one line, as this is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying two extra spools for a Hardy Zane

Hello Wiggy

I have two Rio versi-tips with one being a 6wt for freshwater and one an 8wt Tropical.Had both lines for some years now and they fish very well as intended.

I also have an SA multi-tip 7wt which I bought on offer a while ago from Glasgow Angling Centre and it too fishes well with the only drawback being the loop to loop attachment which is noticeably not as supple as the Rio.

I have used the coldwater Rio versi-tip in similar latitudes to you but not in saltwater.Rio say the line is suitable for cold saltwater fishing.

Do not know how your import system works but might pay you to import the line from USA.Try burfish.com Rio section under windcutter.

Best JP

I had the SA multi-tip for a 7 as well (I sold it in the LTC auction for not much money) and it did have braided loop connections as opposed to the newer welded loop connections.
Although the floating tip was fine, the heavier tips were harder to cast, and hinged. Newer welded loops like I have on my SGS Scandi/Skagit shooting heads don't exibit this hinging.
If the SA tips are still available they were probably converted to welded loops. You could also make your own welded loops (there are posts on Speypages on how to do this easily with shrinkwrap tube, heatgun and running line)
Cheers

For SWFF, I would consider the shooting head option.

Gives you great distance and also reasonably stable for up close work.

This type of thing would give you great versatility, but getting close to the price of a zane spool.

I tried shooting heads for years, but really didn't like them. Great distance but terrible presentation. Most of my sea trout are caught on the first cast within 2-4 rod lengths out. It's all about stealth and a perfect first cast.

I think I'll use my old lines and make my own system with shrink tubes. Cheap and I really happy with the lines that I've got. They all work really well in these nordic conditions.

Guidleline 4 Cast line would do the job mate.

Rio Outbound short is also good close up and can belt out big flies and poly tips.
