Hi all

Just wondering what the river fishermen on here rate best for holding their flies.

When the season comes I hope to have about 10-12 patterns to fit in 2-3 sizes, and but i'd still rather keep boxes to a minimum.

I have a little €2 box for sedges but would ideally like something with compartments and slotted foam.

Same as other fisherman, I have a similar group of flies

Beaded nymphs
Klinks
F Fly
Griffiths
Greenfly/Blackfly
Caenis
CDC and ELK
Hi viz terrestrials
CDC and Herl
Spiders
JT Olives

I see there is a new Wychwood dry fly box out for 2012. What are the Wychwood Clearviews like?

My alternative is to cram them all into a C+F ( which i own, so will save money) but not certain the wingposts/hackles will not be crushed.

Perhaps a mixed compartment/slotted foam would be best i think, but just wondering if i am missing a trick - what u fellas use on the rivers when trying to keep things to a minimum??

I have one of the aluminium type with slotted foam on one side and compartments on the other. I use the compartments for dries, keeps them in shape, and the slotted foam for nymphs and spiders.

I have a large c&f box with slit foam on one side & compartments for dries on the other side,however I am going to use another type of box for my upwinged dries with tails etc because when these dries are in the small compartments the tails tend to bend & then become useless as fishing flies.

I keep all my flies in a Golden Virginia bacca tin. cheap as chips...

Look at the Aleka sports web site, there new to the market and they have some nice wee boxs.

Richard Wheatley fly boxes - not the cheapest but probably the best IMO....

Didnt realise I had asked this question betore ...I must have drank too much at Christmas!

12 compartments may not suffice, as each pattern could have two sizes.

At the moment, i'm tending to lean towards stuffing a small C+F

Does anyone know if a C+F small size will crush down wingposts?

Also, anyone used Wychwood Clearview boxes. Probably not as light as the C+F ?
