Default Question - I need advice please.

I have a new Hardy Swift Mk 2 900 reel and it says the capacity is WF4+90?
I have just received delivery of my fly line which is Rio Gold WF4 (27metres) and my backing line which is 100m of 20lb.

Do I need to reduce the length of the backing by 10metres before I load it onto my reel?

Bit confused - sorry.

Depends on the type of backing you have, thickness etc, but on a #4 you shouldn't really need 100 metres anyway, unless you are expecting some very big fish.
What you could do is tie your line to the reel first, then wind it all on, loosely attach the backing line, then wind it on.
If you still have room, then reverse it and it will be fine.

Load the arbor between 15 to 20% depth with backing when loading a floater.
