Default Greys Streamflex

Hi mates.
I'm going to buy a Streamflex 10" #3. Question is, where are they built? Are true UK made or the blanks come from Asia? Does anyone visited Greys factory and saw blanks or the process? I'm a bit worried cos some people say that blanks are the same as in cheap ones like Streamtec from ebay. Thanks in advance.

I shouldn't get hung up about where blanks are made, the best carp rod blanks are made in the far east! Just because rods are made in the UK doesn't mean they are superior.

The last set of British made Carp Rods I had built were rubbish and now I use Japanese blanks built over here by a rod builder I know. As a sponsored angler with over 30 years experience I can safely say these are the best rods I have ever had my hands on!

The Streamflex is a quality rod as are all Greys rods, I have three fly rods from this manufacturer and I can't fault them.

You only have to look on here to see how popular the Streamflex is becasue as soon as they're advertised in the second hand section they go!

All the ones I have seen have had a "Made in Korea" sticker on the butt end.

I have four of the old Streamflexes and the thing that concerns me is the lack of consistency across the range.
  • The 6' 6" #3 is very stiff, more like a #5, but if you fish small overgrown streams with the possibility of a good fish or two it does a job.
  • The 7' 6" #3 is ok but too stiff in the tip for my liking.
  • The 8' 6" #4 feels quite nice but has a nasty flat spot on the top join.
  • The 9' #3 is a fabulous rod for upstream nymph and dry fly and is easily my favourite rod.
I owned a 10' #3, some swear by them for short line nymph tactics. Me, I found it a soulless method and quickly sold the rod on.

As always the moral of the story is, whenever possible try before you buy.

If you like short line nymphing then I'd say that is a good deal, but £100 sounds better!

If it's the old model you will have no trouble selling it on if you don't like it as they are quite popular.

I've not seen the XF2 so can't comment.

How can i know If mine is the new or the old model? In the blank i can read Streamflex only, nothing of Xf2. And the cork is only one color. Thanks.
