Default Shakespeare Trion XT 9ft 4wt for nymphing

Afternoon all

I have spied the above as a potential tool for some grayling nymphing (I hope to devote Jan to some grayling fishing); I guess like many I cannot stretch to a specialised nymphing rod for a few sessions a year.

I have the old model Trion 9ft in 5/6 weight and it performs very well for reservoir trout; to my mind it has quite a soft action, which i personally like.

I believe the new XT model is a faster action than the old, has anybody tried one for nymphing?.

Tks in advance.

Cant vouch for trion but if it helps i got odyssey xt 8.5ft 5# and its a absoloute peach for buzzers, nymphs etc... for the money i cannot believe how it casts and perfofms, Only used it on small river up to now and caught grayling and trout up to a pound but if trion is better it will be a good buy, ps mine has a fairly soft action.

Well I took the plunge on this and bought one from Norris's this weekend.

First impresssions are that it retains quite a soft action, notably softer than a GRXi+ I tried at the same time (was a 5 weight, though)

Gave it a shakedown on the upper Eden and it coped very well; will give it a couple more outings over the next few weeks and report back. Only real criticism is for larger rivers I suspect it could do with being 10ft; no surprises there.

I can't really fault the Shakespere rods either. Bought a Trion when learning and still use it now even though I own a couple of premium rods now.
