which is the best rod to get for the river within a reasonable price

You need to give more information than that as unlimited answers abound......


River width and depth, over grown, open to wind, target sepcies, (i.e. small trout less than 1lb, salmon) etc, prefered fishing style, dry fly, wet fly, etc etc etc.....

I see you have had no replies, probably because the question is so open.
It depends on so many things.
But generally a 9ft #5 is the place to start.
Try as many as you can through friends and shops.
What action, brand, no. of sections, fittings,container and budget are up to you. Plus opportunities and availability.
But do not buy 'blind'.

well the river i fish is the taff. i fish wet and dry and the fish im after are trout and grayling

if It was me I'd opt for a 9ft 4wt of a medium flex not too fast an action
