Default Help getting the rest of a beginners tackle. Help especially from the clyde fishers.

Hi Guys.
Recently decided to take up the fly after realising i have no patience anymore for waiting for a float to go under. Have bought myself a 8'6 shakespeare odyssey 5/6 wt with an airflo switch 4/5 real after having a read on here. i just have a few questions with regards to the fly lines i am thinking of getting, coupled with leaders/tippet material and a few fly sets to get me going with the trout in the clyde/surrounding fisheries.

Iv been thinking of the airflo size 4 WF sixth sense lines, one floating and one either slow/intermediate sinking line. Any opinions on these, with regards to experience of use and as coupled with my rod/reel.

Also need some recommendations for tapered leaders. Make, length, floating/sinking. Backing aswell as tippet materials i have no idea about.
My thoughts on rigs to this point are to join the backing-line and line-leader with braided loops so as not to be tying too many knots as a beginner at waterside. With leader to tippet i was thinking of 'leader rings' meaning only having to replace the knots in the tippet material.

I have also been looking at the fly packs sold on the fishing megastore website. Just wondering what packs what be better/more attractive to the fish in my area. They currently have a great deal on the pack of 20 trout/grayling flies. Just wondering what would be an ideal few packs to start me off. Heres a quick link:
http://www.fishingmegastore.com/trou...yling_122.html

I realise all of this has been covered throughout the forum, i would just like a complete list of what to get to start me off without having to pick off bits of info scattered across several threads.

Thanks in advance all, really appreciate any help i can get.

Darren.

Welcome to the Forum.I think you will have to wait untill morning before you get some sensible replies.
But with the rod you have chosen I take it you are river fishing,

Jim

The Odyssey tends to be pretty close on line weight so if I was you I'ld get a five weight line instead of a four weight as you'll have trouble loading the rod with a four. As to make I would contact Pitsford Pirate on the forum and get two of his lines. I would use a nail knot to connect the backing to the line and a braided loop to connect the line to the leader. I use a furled leader obtained from MrTrout and swear by them but they are a personal taste. The advantage is better turn over and softer landing plus you just add a straight length of tippet material to the end. Otherwise pick up some nine foot tapered leaders and some tippet material. I like Rio powerflex but again this is me and others swear by Stroft, Orvis, Maxima or the various brands of Flurocarbon. Hope this helps!

Take care

Terry

Cheers for the replies. I had a look on ebay and picked up an Airflo chalkstream platinum WF5F floating line for 12 quid, little bargain. Iv heard alot of people saying about The Pirates lines, what would you recommend as a second line, slow or fast inter? Ill contact MrTrout aswell about info on his leaders. What do you think about the leader rings i mention in the OP? Are the ok or likely to 'spook' fish? If i use them how long a tippet should i leave?

Also still needing a hand as to what flies i should pick to get me going, as i said in the OP, i was hoping to buy some of those pack of twenty i have linked to.

Aswell as my rig i realise im going to have to buy some clothing. Im happy to wear my snickers work trouser, they are really durable. What other gear will i need, vest? bag? Also been looking at landing nets. I dont want to go out and buy waders etc just yet so thought the greys GX net would be ideal for on the bank, they seem to be highly rated and always on deal.

Cheers again.

Darren

Your Platinum line might cause you some problems.

Cheers mate, it only cost just over a tenner anyway. Iv picked up a floating and a slow inter Bario Line anyway after having a wee dig about in the lines section.

Here, try this;

"cheers, grayling, any chance of elaborating on your comment? "

Or perhaps ;

" why is that then? Have you had trouble with this line? "

Other than that, you carry on being rude to people, and enjoy watching your empty thread fall off the front page!

Two replies with not one helpful piece of info, bar a vague comment on the line and a few whistle emoticons, I think justifies a bit of sharpness. No need for it at all. Cheers for your input though.
