Default Tackle from scrap

Having just got BBC4 I was interested to watch a programme about making the instruments for an orchestra from scrap.
Tackle has become so sofisticated it would be interesting to do the same with a fly fishing set up.
With fishing without a reel coming into vougue it is only a stick, string and fly!
Any takers?
Rusty

I've often wondered if you could make a rod out of the fiberglass rods that electricians use to pull cables with. The only problem is they are very flexible but I reckon with a bit of reinforcement you could get a nice flexible rod from one of them.

WWII tank aerials were frequently converted to salmon rods in the late 40's & early 50's I had a shot of one, easier to use than the tree trunks that masqueraded as Greenheart Salmon rods at the time.

My Gramps had one of these and he used to kid us on that it was an antique fly rod, I believe he used it as a rod, and caught fish when other food was in short supply ...

I made two reel from surplus alu last year I hope to try them out this season coming , I used some alu from the back of a washing machine and turned them out on a small lathe , I got the Idea from a site called the Eclectic Angler, where you could get a kit for a reel, easker1
