Default rod joins coming loose :(

evenin all,
i'm after a bit of advice, the last couple of times i've been out i have noticed after a couple of hours that a couple of the joins in my rod are coming loose, the first time i noticed in time, the second......well, lets just say the tip section went for a swim i've never had this happen before and wondered if its something i've done or not done to cause it ? any suggestions how to stop it ?
thanks in advance

lee

One of the female sections is possibly cracked and this can cause the joint to work loose as it is stressed during casting.

Large heavy flies can crack the join if they strike the rod when casting, also if the joint has got some grit inside it can damage the joint and cause it to work loose.

probably work inspecting the female joint for cracks. rub a little candle wax on the male if you can see no visible signs of ware, this usually does the trick.

Hi, next time your out make sure you use a size 8 fly or bigger,so when you haul in your line it catches on your flying rod tip, seriously though a rub with a beeswax seems to work ok,ATB Steve.

The old trick is rub a bit candle wax on the male joint, not too much though, you can always put a bit more on.

i checked all sections thoroughly and no cracks or splits or even signs of wear ! its happening to all the joins, not just the tip one, but the tip one is the only one that has actually came apart, i'll try the wax idea and see how it goes, thanks fella's

A lot of the times this happens it's because the tapers are not a good match.that's why the wax trick works.

If they constantly come loose , you can by a carbon spray and build up the joint, look in coarse angling section on ebay, just be careful and follow the instructions for a permanent solution , rather than wax
