yes, it was cheap, howevever super reels i purchased a 4 and a half ,and a 5 inch drum circa mid eighties, and i would be loathe to let them go at that price. still as we are told everyday on the news market forces prevail. that sticks in my throat. steve.

Steven,

This one is entirely free running - with no check, and is less popular.

If you're in the market for an Adcock, avoid the ones with the black composite foot and look for the earlier (and current) models with an aluminium one.

They probably will cost a little more.

regards,

Doc

Thanks Doc, I have noticed a few of these lately, and they are all under the £100 mark.
I have a Cortesi which does me fine at the moment thanks, just wondered.
Cheers S,

I've got the model with no check and no handles - you have to use the rim and your figer in one of the holes. It stops you from putting too much pressure on a fish, and on the small rivers I fish, nothing can run that far.

I bought it at an antiques auction about 20 years ago for £30. At that time Cliff Adcock was charging £70 for that basic model - checks and handles extra.

I don't think he was charging much more than a hundred or so when he gave up. The new owner, Ray Hyland, has attempted to make the business profitable so they're a bit more expensive now Centre pin or float reels for Steelhead, Barbel, Roach and others.

regards,

Doc

Hi
Glad to see you think it was cheap as I was the buyer. Price was good but he charged £8 for postage which seemed a tad expensive. I think it cost the seller less than £4 to post to me.
It's actually the second one I have purchased over the past month both slightly different. The first was the basic model with handles and no ratchet/drag lever or button.
If you look carefully at the second one, the ebay model, the centre screw is actually a **** that can be rotated about 1/3 of a turn this prevents the spool from rotating which is great when moving from one swim to another or just putting the set up rod in the car or garage.
Apart from the locking **** this particular reel is slightly different from the first in that not only is the Adcock Stanton label on the foot fitting but on the back plate there is an engraved shield with "Adcock Stanton Centre Pin Nottingham Est. 1984" engraved inside the shield and above it is an engraved small fish.
I can understand the comment about the reel foot. Both of my Stantons have composite feet and I would prefer metal but hey I didn't pay too much and both spin well and in good condition.

Nice reels, I had a Rolls Royce factory copy for a while, but I like some handles to grab and a ratchet to flick on when playing a fish, so I swapped it for an Okuma , although I also use a Cortesi job sometimes as well.
