Unhappy Airflo ridge line

recently bought a new ridge line and quite pleased with the suppleness
and it lies nice and straight on the water.
however it came with fitted loops which looks the same material the line is made from.
after a few uses ive found my leader has cut through the coating.
worried it will eventually cut right through the core.
I'm thinking of cutting the integrated loop off and replacing with standard
braid loop.
wondering if anyone else has noticed this problem?

Yep, remove the silly OEM loop with scissors and fit your own one

This is one line which does require some TLC though, leave it on your spool for a few weeks and it gets horrendous memory, it needs stretched frequently to keep it straight; great line though!

Hi Huk,
Put your leader on using a loop to loop connection. Problem solved.

Cheers Diarmid.

The mono loop will still cut into the flyline.cut off the loop and fit a braid loop.Same for Rio.

Any fly line that has a welded loop of any sort will with eventually cut through the coating. The coating is soft and the pressure from the nylon being pulled onto it will cut through it ion no time at all.

Depending which ridge line you have, such as the new supple ones with the braided core will be fine to tie knots into as the core will take a lot to be frayed or snapped. Providing you cut the nylon off from the knot with snips or scissors it should be fine. A sharp pull to remove the nylon will eventually break the braid! I see a lot of people doing this.

The older (first type) with the mono core will snap/cut easier as nylon on nylon connections becomes weak. Knots will cause friction and a sudden jolt will break the loop (usually).

A loop to loop connection is the best and strongest way in my opinion to connect leader to any loops fly lines, Braid or mono.

Cracking line got one recently! Works well on a wave and shoots well in tough winds! Can be used for stillwater and river fishing!

Just cut the loops off and re-apply braided ones.
