Question Outfit for a 13 Year Old

What outfit would most suit a 13 year old beginner?

Rod size/weight, Reel etc etc

Are there any Starter Kits that that come with reccomendations?

Look forward to your views

Messy

Hi Messy, i`ve got a 9`6" 6/7# ron thomson stealhead, still with plastic on cork...bag showing a bit of ware and tare due to be moved around from place to place.Couple of years old bought for my 6 year old daughter at the time, bit ambitious! i also have the reel that came with it somwhere with line . Can also supply you with 7#gxri floating line, came with another reel i bought.
You can have these for free, or if you have any spare flys my older boy is getting into flyfishing...if not no worries....
Not a bad feeling rod but i have never casted it.
Pick up only , i could meet you in Glasgow.

Maybe consider one of the kits from John Norris?. They offer these based on either Greys or Shakespeare tackle and seem pretty fair value.

As for size/weight, I guess it depends what sort of waters you will fish, but for a youngster (my own son was 12 when i bought his) I wouldn't go longer or heavier than 9ft/6 wt to start with.
