Default Traditional Standard Arbour Reels?

Guys,

On my latest clear out for the sake of it I have decided that my large arbour reels are possibly to go in favour of standard arbour traditional reels. Some LA reels are just too big in my opinion (like bicycle wheels on some trout rods) and I've never been a fan of the wider spool which can make line management difficult when playing a fish on the reel and I've had a couple of line jams. Ironic given that ease for playing the fish on the reel as I recall it was one of the major reasons for LA reels in the first place.

Don't have a great deal of money to spend and therefore thinking at the cheaper but worthy end of the market. Orvis Battenkill Disc Drag - anyone tried them? Any opinions gratefully received.

Disc drag preferred, or if click check I'd want an exposed rim for palming.

Cheers

Ben

I've got a Battenkill BBS 3 that I use for my river fishing- great piece of kit. Light, compact and seems impervious to grit, mud etc. However I wouldn't like to go back to my old battenkills for reservoir fishing- however good a line you use, it's going to pick up memory from the narrow coils that a normal arbour reel produces.

Dunbar,

Could be depending on price - how much are you looking for?
