Default Carbon fibre spools

Apart from weight and a cosmetic difference, what do carbon fibre spools offer over the aluminium ones?

For coarse fishing, I've always felt that line comes off the aluminium ones best, although this is obviously not an issue for fly reels.

Thanks in advance.
