Default Shakespeare Summit reel

I have just taken delivery of a pair of Shakespeare Summit fly reels in the smallest size, to carry my #5 lines.
I have been loading the lines on to the spools - and noticed a stainless steel washer & two copper washers, stuck to the top of my desk.
I could see where the stainess washer goes - one of the reels had not had the spool removed, so was presumably in the factory-assembled state - but there was no sign of any copper washer.
I cannot find anything but the stainless washer on the parts list, so does anyone else who has one of these reels, know where these copper washers are supposed to go?

A gun, a rod, a flask of wine.
These have I sought, and have not sought in vain.

Unknown - remembered from an edition of Shooting Times, seen a lifetime ago.

No idea about your washers, sorry, but its nice to know its not just me who does such things! My favourite used to be when dismantling fixed spool reels - I would always manage to dislodge the little bail arm spring and it would ping across the room somewhere never to be seen again

I recently bought the same reel in the same size with the same washers. Only thing I could find that worked was putting them on the reel held on by grease alone. Not sure if that's what they're for but that's what I've done with them as was sure they must serve some purpose.

If anyone comes up with a definative answer, I'd be interested in knowing too.

Regards

Peter

Looked at mine and if its a copper coloured washer it does indeed seem to be just held on by grease on the spindle.

Hope that helps.
