Default Thoughts on Grey's GS 10ft #8???

I'm thinking about getting a Grey's GS 10ft #8. However there are not many people on this side of the pond who have used Grey's equipment. So I am deferring to those of you on the other side of the Atlantic. What are your thoughts on this rod?

Thanks,
Lee

Hello Lee

I bought this rod in 2010, on some well intentioned advice suggesting it was the type of rod I would need for reservoir trout fishing in the UK. I find it well finished, but with a pretty stiff action; I am a relatively new fly fisherman and feel my casting is not strong enough (yet) to get the best from it. I have subsequently bought a 6 weight, 9ft rod (a different brand) and enjoy using this much more - the GS feels like a poker by comparison.

Armed with the hindsight I now possess, if I had my time again I would probably go for either the 7 or even 6 weight GS at the same length.

Thanks for the insight. I'll need a beefy rod for steelheading. I guess I'll have to bring my reel to the fly shop and test it out.

Hi Lee
I have this rod and think it is a very good rod that will handle fish up to 10lb imho, I do not feel it has a stiff action I would say it has a middle to tip action with a med fast recovery, the rod flexes well into the blank. I bought this rod for grilse / sea trout fishing.
If it was trout I was after I wpould go for the same rod but a lighter line rating ie 5/6 or thereabout.

Good luck
Bobby
