Ok,
you do not say were the cork is, assuming it's at the butt end[simples]
firstly find a supplier of bored cork handles[the tackle box].when you recieve the corks, just cut the damaged one free rub the internal dia to fit glue with pva, let it dry and rub down to much the rest.

however it's obvious from this taht if it's at the top the whole handle[can be brought as moulded] will need removal or the eyes[not so easy:

just when you do get it fixed,i would rub some pva glue around the cork anyways,i do this as it keeps the water out..

Are you sure it is actually rotten throughout. or is it simply slimy on the outside? It might be worth drying it out thoroughly and then sanding off the outer surface and refinishing the handle only somewhat slimmer than originally. I only suggest this because I've never known cork to rot simply because it got wet...

I thought this too.

If it's mould on the surface Milton will get rid of it. Milton is the stuff used to sterilise babies feed bottles. It's cheap and available at any chemists. It will take mould off just by soaking and wiping - no sanding needed.

Also good for patios, soft-tops on cars and boats etc etc etc.

Cork wont rot, if you go down any fishing port and have a look at the trawls on the fishing boats, cork last near enough forever, life jackets used to be made of cork, my Gramps told me about a guy who lost a leg at sea, many years ago, he was fitted with a cork leg and still went to sea as a cook on trawlers, hence his nickname "Corky"
