Default Priests, an honest opinion.

What would you pay for a quality priest? I ask as I am wondering if I should market them to dealers, rather than ebay them. I know what I pay for the raw antler, and the amount of time I spend on them. Id appreciate an honest opinion as I have to take dealers mark ups into consideration.
Thanks in advance.

You're obviously a skilled man, good with your hands at creating some nice fine pieces, if your pics there are anything to go by.

These aren't run of the mill goods, more bespoke crafts, and probably, IMO, should be priced to reflect the time spent creating them, rather than trying to cut the mustard with dealers who stock factory produced priests.

I would believe in your product and stick to your pricing. If they're struggling to shift, I would drop the prices a little, and a little again, until you find that medium where they start shifting.

And of course, the cynical man in me would say this post would do your kraftweurk and future sales no harm at all.

Nice looking piece of work.
Try selling a few on forums/ebay, see the response. If good, then market them.

What other Items do you make with the Antler ? Im not knocking you at all as you are a very talented craftsman, but with all the catch and release that is progressing ....

having sold priests in the past antler and turned exotic woods, I found £9 to be acceptable to most people who needed them, I sold at Craft fairs and ried a bit of direct sales to dealers, I sold 10 to one dealer, and she said I'll contact you when we need more, I rang up at a later date and she said but we only sell a couple a year, and we have 8 left, so exit priestmaker with tail between legs,
good luck with yours, easker1

Hi Paul, I remember your priests from way back, and they are lovely objects, and beautifully made.
Years ago I made them in various exotic, and home grown woods such as oak and Yew, ebay didn't exist then, but I used to have an arrangement with a local still water fishery in Lancs, he sold them in his shop, on a sale or return basis.
The trouble is, unless you have made these things, the average person who doesn't use his hands, is unaware of all the work and time involved.
I did a number of craft type fairs with lathe turned objects, bowls etc etc, and they never commanded the price I felt they should have.
It's a tricky one for you TBH, but looking at what you charge for them, I can't see how you could go much cheaper than they are now, by selling to a trade outlet.
I still use my old yew priest, which I made 30 years ago, very rarely now, only on stockies, but if I didn't have a priest, I would have one of yours tomorrow.
Good luck with it, but don't sell yourself cheap mate.
Steven.

Thaks Steven. Appreciated, wondering whether to go full tilt. Antler is extortionate at the mo.

Antlers are the latest must have fashion item for the home. If you have full sets you might be better mounting them and selling to interior designers.

Just seen your last post, that's why...
