Default Sharpes

Does anybody know what has happened to Sharpes?

Have they gone out of business?

Default Another new company formation

Looks like they're about to restart - Sharpes Of Aberdeen Ltd, 100 Union Street, Aberdeen, AB10 1QR, name changed to Sharpes on 18/07/07.

The old company, Sharpes Holdings Ltd, is still in administration at KPMG, Aberdeen.

It also looks like the last rescue company, Sharpes Retail, which became Speyside Angling Supplies, didn't last very well and is now in administation at Pricewaterhousecoppers in Leeds.

Let's hope they remember how to manufacture quality, and not how to import rubbish like everyone else.

Regards,

Doc

Default Sharpes & "Carrot" Fly Rods

Some may remember the Company which had designed a new composite material from carrot fibres for using in sporting applications, such as fly rods. This is CelluComp.

CelluComp Ltd, Burntisland, Fife

NANO-BIOCOMPOSITES

CelluComp will use their SMART Award to investigate the
technical and commercial feasibility of using a new
biocomposite material for the manufacture of shaped
composite tubular components for applications in the sports
equipment market. In addition to being derived from
sustainable sources, the biocomposite material promises to
offer a superior combination of both stiffness and very
high toughness, unlike other products currently
available.

I broke two Sharpe's Gordon rods in a week last September and have had no joy to date obtaining spare sections on the warranty. I spoke to Don MacKenzie on his mobile just after a takeover a couple of months ago. He promised to call back but to date have heard nothing.

Has anybody had any success obtaining replacement Gordon sections recently?

I have.
Snapped my rod in September or October after about a month of use.
Took it back to the shop - they rang the Sharpes guy while I was there. He posted a new section out that night - I got it 2 days later.......and that was during the postal strike.

Yes it was the local shop to me in Whitley Bay.

Forgot to mention - cost me nothing as well - there was no mention of the £20 handling charge.

I was well impressed and, largely because of this experience, now buy virtually all my gear from shops local to me (they usually match internet prices as well if asked)
