Default Loop to Loop - Backing to Flyline.

I've always used permanant connections (Albright knot or Nail knot) for joining my flyline to the backing. I've just aquired a Rio Stealth-Tip line that has a factory welded loop at both ends. I don't want to cut it off and use my normal join, just in case I don't get on with the line and want to sell it on. What's everyones preferred loop to tie in the backing? I'm thinking a Bimini Twist or is there an easier option? I'll be using 30lb Bionic Braid as backing (In pink....just soooo last year )

Perfection or surgeon loop as you will never see your backing

Bimini is the only loop knot close to 100% but you need twice as many twists in it if using Gelspun.

That's not true! I see my backing all the time. That's what the holes in the sides of the spool are for isn't it?

Joining gelspun directly to a flyline loop or nail knotting it is not a good idea. It will cut through the flyline no problem. I usually thread the gelspun through a length of braided nylon, say 25lb, and then form a spliced loop with the gelspun being pulled into the splice as well. Whip the braided nylon where it terminates and dab flexible glue on it. I think it was somebody called Max Garth who came up with the idea and has pictures of this splice. It is 100%. Gelspun is not 100% when using a Bimini Twist, it is just too slippery but with 30lb backing 80% will be good enough. By the way gelspun does not take dye very well so the chances are that all that lovely pink will leach out in to your fly line as well. Matching ensemble Mate should all go with your undies! All soooo last year
