Trout Of Doubt is on a distinguished road
Default Casting over weed

Casting up stream with a dry on small chalk stream.
Moderately sized beds of weed.
Trying to reach some lies with a fly I often end up with the line or fly drifting into the weeds where they break the surface, resulting in drag on the fly, or it just stopping dead.
Any tips? (Other than find somewhere else's to cast.)

ummm.. not sure if I get your drift (Ha!) curve cast so excess line takes the drift before the fly?

or a careful reach cast to put our line on a different current seam. Both work depending on the circumstance. Even better, move yourself to a better position if you can.

thanks

Hey have you seen the big trout on the whin. It's down stream of the path about 250 yards down, blocked from fishermen by a large bank of weed?

It's huge..
