Default Mobile Phone and a 2 Pound Brownie

Please forgive me I am new to the forum and love my little stream The Rotton Calder run by East Kilbride Angling Club which flows down into the River Clyde but I have to let everyone know about my catch of a lifetime!!

I have had the same mobile for 5 years, Pay as you go, its got a camera, internet, google maps, I only use it to make the odd call now and again, does not hold a lot of memory, the battery will last a couple of days, and more often than not, cant get a signal and when I can? I run out of Credit!! so the other night I came across my old Nokia, it can hold a charge for months and the signal I can get is amazing, I have been on a remote Greek island, a farm house in the middle of Italy, perfect full bars, I buy the latest and greatest mobile and cant get a signal from my house, so hence the reason I reverted back to my old nokia, no camera just big buttons!! full bars and no need to run up a small power station bill every fewdays just to charge it..............................but..................................no camera!!

I wandered down to the river the other night, breezy with light drizzle, there was a white froth and every now and again a rise in the middle of the froth, then another and another, ok i though dry fly, after a couple of casts my klink would sink, just as a trout had risen at the precise moment, I sought council from members of the club and indeed the recent gold medalist from the commonwealth championships in Wales, degrease then floatant on your fly every few casts, so I did, still the same, couple of casts, fly would sink, so I decided to switch to a gold head home tied fly, no name, just made it up when I was watching a very dull world cup game,

well........it hit me, then jumped, ran, jumped again then for some reason decided to play dead until I reached down to unhook the fly, it was to me a monster trout as soon as it saw my ungly mug it went crazy, I was all over the place, I finally played it to hand and upon seeing the size of this thing took out my phone, then reaalised I had no camera. I looked up to see if anyone was around, but no one, I became 12 again and wanted to chap it and run home to my mum I was so excited I started shouting its a belter look at it! but there was no one around, I did tho have mini scales and I promise it was a tad over 2 Pounds but because I was shaking I could not read the scale right , this was no stockie, no blue mark underneath. perfect fins and the tail was the size of my Palm I unhooked him and returned him to the river, I sat down, had a fag and went home, I could not better it, I can honestly say that I have had no better feeling in fishing than that, I just wish I had my camera phone or someone around to witness it

Not a tall tale, members of the club will Know that I dont tend to catch a lot of fish, I blanked last year at the lake, this year at Glensherrup and also carron,

I hope I have more days like this and I hope that the next club outing I might not blank but that brown trout for me so far is a personal best for this great little stream in East Kilbride which runs down to the Clyde

Exactly describes my experience of catching a 2ib fish last year - hands shaking, had to sit down and have a fag. And an awful feeling of "Goddammit there's no one here to see this!"

Very well done DB, nice tale, and a good fish.
The times I haven't had a camera with me, and regretted it.

Great story! That is a fantastic wild fish at two lbs! It's amazing how so much more exciting it is to catch a two pound wild fish than it is a double figure stockie. Nothing against stockies and I've caught my fair share but you know that there are big fish when you fish for them and the odds are that sooner or later you will tie into one. However, a wild fish that size on a small stream just gets you so pumped up because you're not expecting it and you know exactly how rare they are. I wouldnt' worry too much about the camera though because the best pictures are always those stored away in your memory!
