Default Poaching on small streams

I got this idea after a thing that happened yesterday. Let`s make a topic about unusual etc. methods of poaching we came across on small streams.

Yesterday i went for a walk along my favorite small stream. Well you can meet a poacher now and then etc., but finding this hidden by the stream was not something that i would expect on a water of that size.

At first i was not sure if this net (which was originally intended for something else, at least so i guess due to the way it is made) was used for poaching, but the fatc that it was hidden by the stream and that it smelled of fish.....i called our club manager and he came with another angler. Yup the net smelled of fish allright. Openings are a bit big, but definetly not too big for big chubs spawning at the time and some big grayling might get cought there as well. Its size (approx. the opening of a soccer goal) was more than enough to make a barrier across a stream.

Yup - these characters are out and about - a net has been found on the Kelvin already this year- pretty much in the city - we just worry about all the nets we do not find.

Default Poaching and Penalties

Poaching seems to be a crime that most of the time people get away with, that is if they are not caught red handed with the booty.
When poachers have contravened the rules of one fishing association they can just move on to another because there is no national database.
Is it time actions against poachers became more organised and visible?

My uncle once (about 50 years ago) got a clip accross the ear from a bailiff for poaching salmon (catching them by hand as they were jumping over a barrier) on the nearby river and went home to his uncle who promptly gave him another one - "For crying out loud - if you are going to do this then go to the wier up at, wherever it might have been, and bring a bloody pitchfork!"
