Box Brook & Little River Avon
I have just started working in Bath and will be for the next year or so. Naturally I have been researching the fishing opportunities in the area and have joined the Berkley Estate Fishing Syndicate who own a large stretch of the Little River Avon and also Bathampton AA who control the fishing on a small stretch of the Box Brook just south of Bath. I adore small stream fishing but my experience of it has primarily been when Coarse Fishing and I am certainly a novice when it comes to this style of fly fishing.
SO, I was wondering whether anyone has fished either of these two rivers and has experience on what works. Of course, I imagine small stream fly fishing techniques are generally very similar so even if you haven't heard of the rivers, anyone advice for a relative novice in this style of fishing on what nymphing set up to start with it would be much appreciated.
I should point out that I have done fair amount of reading up on various river fly fishing techniques, I had no idea that there were so many different facets to river fly fishing! However, too much information has made me a little uncertain of which technique is most appropriate. Short nymphing seems appropriate but from what I've read is far better for Grayling than spooky trout and I don't think either river has a large head of Grayling. I've heard a bit about long-nymphing but don't really know what it entails or whether it would be suitable.
So, some guidance and advice to help a slightly befuddled angler would be great! Thanks, N
