Default line to leader connection

I have got myself a 3 wt rod for some small stream fishing, and am looking for some advice on the line to leader conection,i have a braided loop on at the moment, but it seem a little to big for a dt 3 wt line, and might effect presentation,i was thinking to thread the leader though the line end with a pin as advised by a friend, will this compromise the fly lines floating? and i would like to be able to change leaders a little easier,,,
any suggestions welcomed by a novice trout fisher

cheers

if you break the surface of the fly line it will take in water as will the end of it if you dont seal it ,a little aquasure, or waterproof superglue will do it ..

For my small lines I dissolve the last inch or so with acetate(nail polish remover) then create a loop with the braided core. As quoted above you will have to seal the point where the PVC ends and the core is exposed.

This method seems to run through the rings smoother than a braided loop.

Default What i do!

I agree with petros, the nail varnish remover works a treat, fold the braid back on itself, a spot of super glue and then i cover it with flytying thread, to smooth over the joint, and seal it with another drop of super glue.
I have a friend who uses roman moser mini braided loops and he swears by them???
it depends on what type of leader you are planning on using? pm if you want some more details bud? cheers zimtrout

When its 'dissolved' enough it will just crumble away when you rub it with fingernail.

Have yiou tried the "needle knot?"
You take a sewing maching needle, and push it about half an inch up ther core of the flyline, and bend the line over at the point of the needle, and push the point of the needle through the side of the line. Through the hole in the front of the needle, thread the leader, thin side through, and pull the whole length of the leader through ther half inch piece of fly line, up to the butt of the leader, If it gets too tight as the leader thickens, you can dip the end of the fly line into boiling water for a few seconds.
the.
It is a seemless join and works really well for light lines and leaders.

Aklso google "needle knot"

You could check out the first post of Pitsford Pirate's fly line bonanza thread - only mention this coz I've just had cause to look at it the other day. At the bottom of the first post there's lots of info on how to attach leader to fly line. Certainly, a fair body of opinion out there doesn't like braided loops for presentation purposes. Me - the stockies I catch with my #8 weight... braided loop is the least of my presentation problems.

All t'best,

Neil

yes i have used the needle knot on my 5 weight floating dt line before,it is a nice seemless taper that way but not great for changing leaders, and the sinking poly leaders i use have a welded loop on,means chopping this off. so i am going to give this nail polish remover trick a go.

thanks i will look for pitsford pirates post aswell,

thanks for the ad vice il let ye know how i get on,,temp seems to be rising here, hope to be out on saturday
