Default Advice on short rod plz

Hi all,

Does anyone have experiace of the following rod, or thoughts?

GRXi + Rods GRXIP15 6’6 / 1.98 #5 4 27 / 86 RHW £109.99

Looking for a short rod for my local brook. (it does also hold carp of about 5 pound)

Have been catching them on orangy bushy dries.

.....and would the 6'6 be OK on small rivers, I think it might do the job.

Please advise......thanks

Johan

Johan,

I'd go for the Older Model GRXi in a 7ft, #3,weight if you can find one? I sold mine! But they are a beautiful lightweight rod.

Try the Shakespeare Odyssey 7' 3 wt, or the Trion 6'6'' 3wt.

The 5wt will feel quite stiff (and should also be quite fast)due to the short length and heavy line and tippets will have to be quite heavy to compensate and I doubt it will be very delicate.

I have both the Shakeys and either works (when I'm not using my 7' 1wt) for normal distances (under 15 yards) but can push to 20ish when needed.

Thanks guys,

Was thinking of the #5 as I have a reel for it, but decided to get a 7 11 #4 Orvis TLS and matching Orvis BBS reel, this will double up for the river too.

Can't wait to try out the outfit as this will be my new go to setup!

Johan
