Default Downstream in narrow channels

Any tips for fishing downstream wets or nymphs in narrow channels?
I'm thinking of channels which might be 2ft deep, but only 4th between bank and weed beds.
Heavy flies seem the obvious choice but how can you get the fly to cover any decent distance without recasting every 5 seconds or getting the line caught up in weeds?

I'm guessing that "klink and dink" will be the main response - it's a good way of swimming a nymph downstream. I'd say dry fly is the other option, 2 ft deep is fairly shallow - dries should bring a fish up. "Klink and dink" will kill 2 birds with one stone though.

Sounds an interesting spot - they're often the most satisfying.

Not heard of kilnk & dink being used downstream. How would you let that run downstream without the klink just getting dragged along with a huge wake.

Agreed - controlling the 'float' is going to be tricky, but I can't see any other way, certainly wher eyou can detect a subtle take? Basically we're talking about trotting a nymph. if the nymph does end up travelling faster than the dry, then a wake is inevitable, as is the nymph rising in the water as it's pulled back by the fly. Still -it's worth a shot!

How would you stop the line being the greatest factor in terms of drag? I assume the answer is "trotting" but sort of guessing what it means, I'm not familiar with that.

Trotting - as in the coarse-fishing technique: you float fish a bait downstream, controlling the speed of the bait with the float - feeding line as it goes - same as letting a nymph drop downstream in a river if you can't get downstream to get a better angle, you can just mend line onto the water and let the current take it. Same as you would if fishing a dry downstream at distance.
