Default Mink

I'm sure this has been covered before so apologies. I've just come back from the Upper river Chew on the Knowle ticket and while sitting quietly letting the water settle a Mink appeared. Sat no more than 5ft away stayed a while before flying off through the bushes.

My fishing over for the evening (as every fish on the river had found somewhere else to be) I went home.

I been doing some searching and I'm supposed to report this, but try as I might I can't find where or to whom. Can any help please?

Thanks

Report it to the keepers. They will soon deal with the problem.

You must first trap, shoot, exterminate the foul animal hating vermin that released them into the wild. Then inform the keeper.

Thanks guys I wrote it on the returns sheet so the club know. I think I'm supposed to report it to the Wildlife trust or somebody like that. Any ideas?

The Game and Wildlife Conseravtion Trust's rafts work brilliantly at the 1 per Km of river bank and have meant that the Monnow catchment is completely mink free and remains so, now using volunteers to monitor the bulk of the 100 rafts along our rivers. The positive effect on fish, birds and mammals on our river banks is wonderful, with Dabchicks, Water voles, sand pipers and many other species breeding happily without this alien invader.

A mink raft is a raft with a built in clay pad that shows all footprints of the animals that cross it and so we can ascertain if mink are present, by weekly monitoring, and set live traps if they appear.

Not only are we beating the mink, we are bashing the Balsam with over 50kms of river treated so far and eradication forcast in 2014.

www.monnow.org will give you all the details of the available fishing (via the WUF website) and much more.
