Default Tired of leaky waders?

I fish roughly 3 times a week, week in week out. Fishing mostly small trout streams. As you can imagine, I go through waders real quick. I've recently thrown away a pair of Orvis, and have holes in a 3 year old pair of Simms guide. Over the years I've found no matter how much I pay, my breathable waders leak, it's the seams that go mostly? I've also found I sweat no matter now good I expected them to be!

I expect if I only fish open water, didn't do much kneeling, or sitting, a pair would last much longer. But I'm always sliding down banks, or walking through rough ground. So my next pair of waders are going to be, British made pvc chest waders, with boots attached. My thinking is this.

Pvc is much stronger, and should be up to the job I need them for. I don't live in a hot country, so sweating should not be too great. And I can always let them down to breath, if I feel uncomfortable during a session.

I'm always coming home and cleaning boots, gravel guards, and the waders themselves, a real pain late at night. With all in ones, I can just hose them down, another big plus is they will repair, if they do get a leak.

I expect to pay 400 pounds for a decent pair of Gortex waders. Pvc ones are under a 100. We will see, and I will feedback?

Almost all leaks I've had have been at the seams of breathables so if I start getting a small leak I will put seam sealant along every seam and that does the trick! You can get it for about 5 quid from camping shops. Cheaper than a new pair anyway...

If you're clambering about and walking any distance I reckon you'll sweat your wotsits off in a PVC set regardless of the weather. I'd also want something a little more supportive on my feet.

Having said that it's interesting to note that price seems to be irrelevant. I need a new set of boots and waders and was considering spending more than last time in an effort to get something that'll last longer.

Perhaps I shouldn't?

Don't go there!

I've just changed to breaths les from PVC and the difference is huge.

PVC make you sweat so much it doesn't matter if they leak or not. If you must go down that road, Snowbee do a reasonably priced number.

There is a reason they make SAUNA Sweat Suits out of PVC

The only option I have found is 2 pairs of ORVIS one pair to swap too when you send the other pair back for replacement every year or so

Neoprene!

In the inevitable event that they start leaking, at least they act like a wet suit and keep you warm.

They seem much, much better able to deal with thorns, rocks etc than either PVC or breathables. You do sweat more than in breathables, but much less than in PVC.

Having said that, once you've collected 2 leg-fulls of water, it does become a little challenging to get up the bank...

I bought a pair of these at the start of the season Chestwaders. The farmers on the rivers i fish seem to have an inexhaustible money supply to buy barbed wire. The buggers even have there gates locked & barb wire spireled alone the top of there gates.Any wire that gets old they chuck in the river so you cant see it..The results so far is i have fixed six holes so far this season. The leaks are easy to find & easy to fix with a small blob of stormsure.Breathable waders would be in the bin by now.I can see my procasts lasting 5 years as the boots look very good quality. Cant see me going back to breathable waders..

Or you could do what I do from June onwards, ditch the waders, get the swimming shorts out and a pair of boots (can be old walking boots, rock boots, jungle boots etc) and become one with the river...
