Default Food for Thought! When Fishing Streams??

---------------------COULD BE A WEE BIT OF FUN-------------------------

I saw this topic on another fishing forum titled "Eats for a Small streams" I really enjoyed reading the comments of the anglers that posted replies to the question asked of them! So here is the question for you small stream anglers.

When you go out for the day or for longer periods (maybe camping) on a fishing expedition. What eats and treats do you take with you???

Are you one of the : Travel Lightweight - Stream Anglers? Or Are you the kind of Fly Angler that : Takes everything - except the kitchen sink???

------------------------------THE QUESTION IS!-------------------------

What do you take with you to eat & drink when fishing a small stream??

I'll begin with my answer to this question. I would normally take with me (at the beginning of the season) a thermos flask of hot coffee (laced with a little liven-er) a Pork Pie, or a Sausage Roll, or maybe a Sandwich, also a choccy bar!! But as the season moves on and warms in temperature, I will be out fishing for 12, to 14, hours; and take a large bottle of water/squash and some Oatmeal fruit bars or a Mars bar (sometimes two) occasionally I'll take a packet of Sugar-Barley Sweets! But if I'm going on a camping and fishing trip, I'm stacked up with all kinds of eats and treats; and many extras, just in case I get peckish?? I always end up bringing most of it home! Anyhow, when this topic was posted on another forum, the answers to the question where so varied, that it became very entertaining to read of the eats some anglers take with them when out and about stream fishing; even table clothes - wine and wine glasses - stove or Bar-B-Que; and that's just on a one day fishing expedition! So, as I stated at the beginning : This could be a wee bit of fun. Please take part; but keep it true; and ad photos where possible?

I'll hand it over to you guys!

Winter time it's the Kelly, choccy bics and various Ginsters slices
Summertime , usually just a drink Mos- too busy catching fish to eat
So when we fish the stream, i'll rely on you for vittels

Take care.
Ade.

Butties, 2 muffins usually cheese topped. Banana, kitkat (sometimes 2) and pork growler. I only ever take a flask with boiled water. Depends on how long I'm out as to size of flask. I only drink black coffee, so pot with coffee powder in and plastic mug if taking small or medium flask as cups are only midgy. May put some mints in a pocket.

Hey you guys are truly boring! The Yanks are far more entertaining when they go fishing, seems their grub is almost as important as the fishing! Exotic nosh, Wine - Bar B Que and lots of preparation, But then I suppose everything is bigger in America. I was expecting at least a Kelly Kettle and a Fry-up.

Maybe it's going to pick up - if this thread runs for a-while?

Hope so! Could do with a wee bit of fun.

I usually fish big rivers and stay in a near by hotel. I carry 2-3 bottles of water, bags of nuts, beef jerky and maybe something a lil sweet. The truck is usually within an hours walk back, in it I keep an ice chest of water, soda, and beer. A thermos of Hot coffee in the winter, none in the summer. I may take sandwiches and chips (crisps) if I don't want to get off the river. Other wise I (we) drive back to the hotel for a meal and rest/relax then back out on the river till dark. The grills and adult beverages come out for supper, or we go to a local restaurant.

Longer camping trips with the fishing club (30 to 125 people use tents, trailers, back of trucks and hotels) require a daily happy hour at 5 with wine & hors d'oeuvres usually cooked by the wives & girl friends, followed by a late supper. Supper is usually on the grills or in Dutch Ovens, no one goes hungry. A "pot luck" always happens on one of the afternoons as an early supper. This is a 300+ member (families) fishing club that enjoys eating and drinking as much as fishing. All the grandparents get together to show pictures of the family and tell stories and play cards & board games. Others are knocking back the cocktails. More of a outdoor social club than anything, good folks and lots of fun.

Of late, my mates missus has been so glad to get rid of him she packs him off with coffee and bacon sandwiches for both off us - which he carries

Normally I would just take some juice.

I travel light (mostly using public transport and therefore an all day affair) so for me it's a bottle of water and one of those tubs of cocktail Lincolnshire sausages Tescos do. All protein and I find it keeps me going for a while - I can snack when I want. A sandwich only fills you up so much and once opened you generally eat it all at once. I sometimes take a chocolate bar along too.
